When you regularly check your vehicle’s tire pressure and inflate the tires to the proper pressure levels, you will save a bundle of cash on fuel and tire replacements and be safer on the road. The following tips from your INFINITI dealer will show how easy it is to check tire pressure and keep your INFINITI tires inflated to the proper PSI.
Tips From Your INFINITI Dealer: How To Check Tire Pressure on Your Car
Check the Pressure on Cold Tires
It is essential to check the tire pressure levels when the tires are cold. If your tires are hot, it will influence the reading. Wait a few hours after you’ve driven before you check the PSI.
Write Down the PSI
The recommended tire pressure is on the inside of your passenger door or in your owner’s manual. Some cars have different pressure levels for the front and rear tires. If the tire pressure levels vary, write down the recommended PSI for each tire.
Use a Tire Pressure Gauge
Using a gauge makes checking the PSI easy. A battery-powered digital tire pressure gauge displays a digital reading and is the most accurate. The analog tire pressure gauges have dial faces that point to the pressure reading, and others have bars or marked sticks to show the level.
Check the Pressure of Each Tire
Pick any tire on your car and remove the valve cap. Press a digital or analog tire pressure gauge firmly onto the valve stem and wait for the reading. Write the reading down next to the correct tire pressure level on your piece of paper. Repeat the process until you’ve checked the pressure on all four tires and the spare. You can replace the valve cap if the tire is inflated correctly.
Compare the Readings
Check the pressure readings you wrote down against the correct PSI for each tire. If you notice that the pressure is lower than the recommended PSI, you will have to inflate the tire to the proper level. If the pressure reading is higher, you must deflate the tire.
Add Air to Underinflated Tires
Press an air compressor nozzle onto the tire air valve to seal it tightly. Hold the nozzle in place for 30 seconds and recheck the reading. Add air until the reading reaches the required PSI and replace the valve cap.
Release Air From Overinflated Tires
If the tire is overinflated, use your tire pressure gauge and press down on the metal pin in the valve stem to release air. Do this in short bursts and check the pressure level regularly until you get the correct pressure reading. You can then replace the valve cap.
