What Is Your CT Car Title, and Why Is It Important?

Your car title is an official document issued by the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Each vehicle in the state must have a title, and the DMV keeps a copy of every title. As your INFINITI dealer in Greenwich, CT, we'd like to tell you more about your title and why it's essential. The Title Proves You're the Owner Just as each vehicle has to have a title, every title must have an owner. Your title document proves that you're the owner of the car. The title lists both a registered owner and a legal owner. If you have no lien on a vehicle, your name will be listed as both the legal owner and the registered owner.   If there's a lien on the vehicle, the lienholder's details will be listed on the title as the legal owner. When you have a lien, the title document will usually be kept by the lien holder. Once the lien is discharged, the lien company will mail you the original title for your car and inform the DMV. The DMV will send you an updated title with the lien and lienholders' details removed. more You Need the Title To Sell Your Car Your title is an essential document that you need if you want to sell your car. To sell the vehicle, you must transfer the title to the buyer. The DMV has made this process easy, as you and the buyer will need to complete the transfer of title section on the back of the paper. You'll complete the form as the seller, and the other party will complete the form as the buyer.   Once both of you have signed and dated the form, this transfer needs to be recognized by the DMV. You can take the forms in person to the DMV office, or you can mail them. Once the DMV has received the old title document and the other relevant information, they will update the title. A copy of the updated title will be mailed to the new titleholder. You Must Have a Connecticut Title If you move to Connecticut from another state, you will need to change your previous state's title for a Connecticut one. The DMV requires you to apply to transfer your title within 60 days of being a resident in Connecticut. To transfer your title, you'll need to take several documents to the local DMV office: Proof of your identity Proof of car insurance Connecticut title application Connecticut registration application Vehicle inspection report Proof of ownership Payment of the fees You'll also need to surrender your old license plates. When the DMV completes your transfer to a Connecticut title, they'll mail the new title, your new registration papers, and your new license plates to your registered address.   If you'd like to know more about your title, come see us at DARCARS INFINITI of Greenwich. Your next car is waiting for you.

Driving in CT: 3 Safety Tips When Another Driver Is Driving Too Slowly

Anyone stuck behind a very slow driver knows how annoying it can be. But even if you're in a rush, you shouldn't overtake in an unsafe spot. In Greenwich, CT, there are plenty of places to overtake safely, so you should wait until you've reached a suitable section of the road. In the meantime, take a deep breath and distract yourself with music or a radio show. Read on to find out how to deal with people driving too slow on the local roads. 1.    Stay Back and Remain Cautious When dealing with a slow driver, you might be tempted to tailgate them and overtake them at the first opportunity. But this could be dangerous for you and the other driver, so you should proceed cautiously. Remember, there could be a reason why the person is driving so slowly. For example, they might be a newly qualified driver who is not yet secure on the road. Alternatively, an issue with their car, such as a problem with the brakes or the steering, could make them anxious.     Remember also that the speed limit is just that: a limit. It is not a goal to be reached, and drivers are not breaking the law by not going at the speed limit. They have no obligation to do so. The only time slow driving breaks the law is on highways where minimum speed limits are posted. more 2.    Take a Deep Breath Take a deep breath before you honk or shout at the other driver. In the grand scheme of things, the few minutes you spend behind this other car won't make a big difference to your life. Although it might feel like you'll never reach your destination while you're stuck, the road will likely widen, or there will be another opportunity to overtake the car soon.   When you get to your destination, reflect on what happened. Was the driver going that slowly, or were you trying to rush because you were running late? If the former is true, you can dismiss the incident, but if the latter is the case, you should consider giving yourself more time for your trips. 3.    Take Action When It's Safe Never overtake on the wrong side of the road. It's better to be stuck slightly longer and wait for a suitable opportunity. Unless you're driving on a very narrow country road, there will likely be a good place to overtake within a few minutes. At that time, you can indicate what you are about to do and make your move.   If the issue is a one-off, there's no reason to take further action. However, you should consider reporting consistently slow drivers who cause problems regularly to the local authorities. Driving extremely slowly can be almost as dangerous as speeding, and it can cause a severe issue for other local drivers. Therefore, taking appropriate action is always recommended.     Dealing with very slow drivers can be challenging, especially if you've got someplace to be. The best strategy is to keep a reasonable distance between their car and yours and look for suitable spots to overtake them. It has too many unique features to list, so we have picked our four favorites, and you can find out the rest on your own! 1.     Moonroof with Power Sunshade A moonroof is always a nice feature to have in your vehicle. Driving down backcountry roads on a Saturday, it's nice to be able to see the bright blue sky. But what about days when it's a little too sunny? In a car, that means comfortable seats. The seats in this INFINITI are amazingly comfortable. The bucket seats are heated and cooled, but they also have four-way lumbar support. The best part of these seats, in our opinion, is the massage function. Who doesn't want a massage while they are driving down the highway? more 3.     Gorgeous Interior We all like to impress with a sophisticated car, but we often just look at the outside of people's cars. What about when you're going on a first date, and your special someone is riding in your vehicle? This vehicle's interior is dressed to impress. With leather-appointed seats and leather, metal, and wood look-alike accents, your date will notice the beauty inside of this car! 4.     Safety Features Safety features are an essential part of a vehicle. Three Engine Problems You Should Only Get Fixed at Your INFINITI Dealer

Your INFINITI's engine is the most expensive part of your vehicle, and it's incredibly complex. For these two reasons alone, if you have engine problems, it's essential to visit your INFINITI dealer so that experts can repair it. While there are many different problems an engine can have, these are a few examples that it's time to see us for a repair. The Engine Won't Start If you turn the key in the ignition and nothing happens, you have an engine problem. The three main culprits are your battery, alternator, or starter. The battery provides the electricity sent to the starter to crank your engine. A dead battery may just be a sign of age, but it could also be a sign of a problem with the alternator.   Your alternator provides the power to keep your car's electrical systems working and recharge your battery. If your alternator starts to fail, it won't be able to recharge your battery completely. This means the battery power will start to run out of power. The starter could be worn or damaged, which will prevent the battery power from cranking your engine. Our highly trained technicians will find the source of the problem. more Clogged Radiator Your car's radiator is essential for controlling the temperature in your engine. The heat from combustion and hundreds of fast-moving parts makes your engine a very hot place. A liquid coolant circulates through your engine to absorb this heat and take it to the radiator. In the radiator, the heat from the coolant is exchanged for cool air from outside.   Coolant slowly degrades as it works. It absorbs dirt, debris, and other contamination. This contamination makes the coolant thicker and more sludgy. When this coolant reaches the radiator, some of the contamination will be deposited in the bottom of the radiator. These deposits can block your radiator and cause your engine to overheat in time. We can repair or replace your radiator. Faulty Sensors There are numerous sensors throughout your car. Each of these sensors is attached to a vital component to monitor it for any sign of problems. These sensors can detect minute changes in the component they're attached to. If a sensor detects a problem, it will relay this to your car's computer, and one of the lights on your dash will light up.   Unfortunately, sensors can malfunction, which can lead to your computer making a wrong decision. The oxygen sensor, for example, can malfunction. This sensor monitors the amount of unburnt oxygen in the exhaust. Your car's computer uses this information to adjust the fuel-air mix in your engine. With incorrect information, you can use more fuel, and your engine power will be reduced.   These are some problems that can seriously damage your engine if they're not repaired. Contact us online or call us ASAP at DARCARS INFINITI of Greenwich if you have any trouble with your engine.

Winter in CT: 4 Tips for Driving on Icy Roads

When temperatures plummet, the roads can become a more dangerous place in charming Greenwich, CT. Use this guide to learn the many ways that you can promote safety on unsafe icy roads during the wintertime. Whether you are a resident or traveling to the area on vacation, knowing these tips can help you stay safe and keep others on the road safe. 1.    Swap Your Tires Out Simply having a four-wheel-drive will not help you when your standard tires don't have the traction necessary to cling to ice. At the start of winter in snowy Connecticut, the first thing you can do is swap out your regular tires for winter ones. This will help you stay on the roads without losing control of the vehicle when it encounters ice. 2.    Carry Emergency Icy Road Gear Carrying an icy road kit with you and leaving it in the trunk of your car can be a great way to set yourself up for safety on the roads. Chains can be a great thing to have on hand, as they work great for preventing sliding on ice. more 3.    Drive Slower and With More Care When you know ice is present on the roads, there are ways that you can alter your driving to remain safer. One of these ways is to simply slow down. Drive slower than you usually would, and when accelerating or braking, press the pedals slowly rather than slamming them down.   Another way you can avoid or prevent accidents on icy streets is by giving yourself more space between your vehicle and the car in front of you. If you'd usually drive a certain number of car lengths behind someone, double it or even triple it in potentially icy conditions. This gives your vehicle more time to stop before potentially colliding with the car in front of you. 4.    Be Observant of Ice One of the most important ways to stay safe on icy streets is recognizing when these conditions are present. If you are ready for ice, you can prepare your car and change how you are driving to be safer. The best way to be prepared is to check the outdoor temperature to see if it is freezing and then check for signs of ice anywhere around.   Sometimes ice on the road ahead can appear as a puddle of water. Learn to recognize signs like this, so you can begin to apply the brakes early and stay at a safe distance behind the car in front of you.   Ice on the roads can become a threat to the safety of anyone operating a vehicle. Learning the tips and tricks for optimal road safety is essential for Connecticut drivers. This guide provides the basics to help you keep you and your family safe while driving in the winter. Visit DARCARS INFINITI of Greenwich today to get your ideal cold-weather-outfitted vehicle perfect for Connecticut winters.

8 Tips for Passing Your CT Driver's Permit Test

Thirty-five percent of applicants in Greenwich, CT, fail their first driver's permit test. If you want to be among those who pass, all it takes is good preparation. The following eight tips should have you taking the test with confidence and passing with flying colors. Study the Driver's Handbook As you prepare, carefully set aside time each day to pour over your driver's handbook. The road signs, rules, and operating guidelines may seem like a lot to learn. But you'll find that most of it is common sense, and you'll soon know it all by heart with a bit of diligence. Use the Handbook for Greenwich, CT Make sure you have a copy of the handbook for Connecticut. Each state has slight variations in driving laws, especially concerning younger drivers. For example, in Connecticut, drivers aged 16 or 17 can't have any passengers in the vehicle with them except an instructor, parent, or older licensed adult for the first six months of driving. more Take Plenty of DMV Practice Tests Practice makes perfect, and there's no reason not to take multiple DMV practice tests before the real thing. This will give you a very accurate assessment of how prepared you are, and it will also do wonders for your confidence. Arrive Rested and Well Fed Make sure you get a good night's sleep before the test day and enjoy a healthy breakfast that's low in sugar and refined carbs before you head to the test center. You want your mind to be sharp and alert, which won't be the case if you're tired or eat a lot of junk. A good meal an hour or so before your test will also help you feel energetic and focused. Review Your Notes Before the Test On the morning of the test, lightly browse your handbook, notes, and key things to remember. If your practice tests have revealed any areas that you find more challenging to remember, focus on these points while reviewing your notes. Turn Up Nice and Early As with any exam, you don't want to rush and get there just in time to begin. This will have you feeling flustered and nervous from the get-go. Make sure you know exactly where your local DMV is and arrive at least 30 minutes before your test is due to begin. Take Your Time When your test begins, there's no need to rush. Keep your eye on the clock, but read each question carefully and thoroughly two or three times. Applicants who rush through tend to misunderstand certain questions and lose points unnecessarily. Once again, the practice tests will help you learn how to manage your time just right. Review Your Answers Try to leave a few minutes in the end, to read back over the test. Reread each question with care, and you might find that you can improve a couple of your answers. This may be the difference you need to pass, so don't miss this final step out. Good luck with your test, and have a wonderful time driving your first car.   Whether you're buying your first car or looking for an upgrade, pay a visit to DARCARS INFINITI of Greenwich. We're a trusted local dealership that offers the region's best selection of new INFINITI and used vehicles, coupled with exceptional customer service and care.

Time to Replace a Car Belt? Visit Your INFINITI Dealer Today

There are hundreds of moving parts that keep our vehicles functioning. With this many moving parts, it's not uncommon for things to wear out and need to be replaced. You should know the signs that you need a new car belt so that the professionals at your INFINITI Service Center can keep your vehicle running in peak condition.     Your vehicle has two main belts that need to be inspected for wear. The first is your serpentine belt. The serpentine belt in your car is a long continuous belt that moves multiple pieces in your engine. These pieces include your alternator, power steering pump, water pump, and air conditioning compressor. If this belt breaks, none of these systems can function.   The second belt that you need to inspect routinely is your timing belt. Your timing belt keeps your camshaft and crankshaft in sync. This keeps your engine valves working and your engine functioning as it needs to. It is vital to ensure these belts are replaced before they break so they do not cause severe damage to your vehicle's engine. more Age A good rule of thumb to follow for replacing your belts is to check your owner's manual for the recommended replacement time. Most serpentine belts should last between 60,000 to 100,000 miles or between 7 and 10 years. Do your best not to go over this window even if the vehicle is not experiencing any issues yet. Instead, get into your dealership to have the certified technicians check your belt for issues. Visible Damage You should routinely check your engine compartment to ensure you don't see any visible damage. If your belt appears worn, get it checked by a professional. A belt can develop cracks or lose small chunks of material over time. If you see large cracks, you may also notice that the internal threads of the belt can be seen. If you notice any signs of damage or wear, be sure that you visit your dealership soon so that they get you an appropriate replacement. Sounds When a belt begins to wear or starts slipping, it will often emit a screech or high-pitched squeal. If you notice sounds coming from your engine compartment, check the serpentine belt for damage, fraying, splitting, or glazing. If you notice visible damage, get it in to have the belt replaced. However, even if you can't see visual issues, get your vehicle to a mechanic so that they can diagnose the problem. Benefits of a Dealer When you visit your dealership, you know you will get quality craftsmanship and OEM parts. The certified technicians at the dealership have experience and access to the best machines and technology on the market. They also have many OEM parts on hand, so you will not have to wait while a part is shipped to the shop.   If your car makes unusual noises or has mechanical issues, don't wait for the problem to worsen. Contact us at DARCARS INFINITI of Greenwich and schedule an appointment with our certified service department today.

3 Benefits of Getting Routine Brake Service for Your INFINITI

As drivers, we tend to take our brakes for granted. Fortunately, most of us never experience such a terrifying moment as pressing down on the pedal and the car not slowing down. But brake failure still accounts for 300,000 accidents a year in the U.S. Even such a reliable vehicle as an INFINITI should have its brakes diligently maintained because brake failures are often caused by simple neglect of maintenance. Here are three good reasons to head to your local INFINITI dealer for routine brake service. 1.    Notice Worn Down Pads The most common fault with a braking system comes from excessively worn-down brake pads. These pads clamp onto the rotor when you press the brake pedal, slowing your car. Each time you do so, a tiny amount of each pad is shaved off. Eventually, pads can wear through the top-level, high-friction layer to the steel beneath, which is when they become less effective and dangerous to use.   Brake pads can last anywhere from 30,000 to 100,000 miles. Usually, you'll hear strange noises when a pad wears down too much, but sometimes you'll miss it. A thorough brake examination will always let you know the exact condition of your pads and if you need new ones. 2.    Replace Damaged Rotors The rotors themselves also become worn down by all the heat and friction. A high degree of scraped grooves, warping from overheating, or lumpy patches formed from melted and reformed brake pad resin, can make your rotors ineffective. A faulty rotor is dangerous as it creates brake fade, where your car's stopping power diminishes. A good inspection will find any rotor trouble and either fix or replace it. more 3.    Detect Brake Fluid Leaks Perhaps the most dangerous potential fault in your braking system is leaking brake fluid. The hydraulic braking system in your INFINITI uses brake fluid to amplify the force of your foot on the pedal, allowing you to exert enough power to stop your car. Any leak reduces this hydraulic pressure, making your brakes spongy, weak, and even useless.   Because of this, your fluid levels need to be periodically checked and topped up. A technician will also identify any leaks and find any problems with the brake lines and hosing, which could lead to leaks down the line. How an INFINITI Dealer Can Help There are several stages to a routine brake examination. First, the technician at your local dealership will check your fluid levels and add more if necessary. Then they'll check all the lines and hoses under your hood before raising your vehicle to examine the components under the chassis.   Finally, they'll remove the wheels to inspect your rotors and pads. They'll also check each wheel's caliper, which is the part that houses the brake pads and pistons, applying the stopping pressure. If anything needs repairing or replacing, the technician will show you the problem and explain it. If all is well, they'll let you know so that you can drive away with heightened peace of mind.   You can have a certified professional service your brakes today. Just head down to DARCARS INFINITI of Greenwich. We're a trusted local dealership dedicated to providing transparency and valuable insights to each customer.

Driving in CT: 6 Things to Avoid When Driving at Night

The National Safety Council (NSC) and The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) warn that being on the road after dark is the most challenging time behind the wheel. Nighttime is also when fatal accidents are three times more likely to occur. Below are a few things to avoid when driving at night around Greenwich, CT, and to help you stay safe on the road. 1.      A Damaged Windshield Your windshield must be in good condition to increase your visibility at night. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) warns that a scratched, nicked, or cracked windshield will seriously impair your vision at night, increase glare, and scatter light. As soon as you notice windshield damage, get it repaired to improve your nighttime visibility, even if it's just a minor nick. 2.      Improper Headlight Settings The National Safety Council (NSC) states that a driver's visibility is limited to approximately 500 feet with high beams and only 250 feet on low beams. If your headlights are not set at the right height and are too low, you won't properly see the road ahead, and if the headlights are set too high, you could blind other drivers. Ask your INFINITI technician to check your headlights and adjust them to the correct angle for the best visibility. more 3.      Being Blinded At night your visibility is poor, and your headlights and the headlights from oncoming traffic can further impair your vision. Avoid directly looking at the headlights of oncoming vehicles. The bright light might temporarily blind you.   To avoid blinding other drivers on open or rural roads, dim your headlights within 500 feet of an oncoming car, and when you are behind another vehicle, don't use your high beams. 4.      Speeding Reduce your speed to increase your safety on the road at night. When you drive fast, and your visibility is limited, it shortens your reaction time and increases your chances of causing a traffic accident. According to the NSC and the NHTSA, speed-related crashes in the USA account for 37 percent of fatalities during nighttime driving, compared to 21 percent during daylight hours. 5.      Tailgating When you drive on a dark road, you can only see as far as your headlights allow, giving you less time to react. Reduce your speed and keep a safe following distance of at least three to four seconds between your car and the vehicle in front of you. If you leave enough space, it should give you the time you need to react, brake, and avoid road hazards and collisions. 6.      Drowsiness and Alcohol If you want to hit the road after dark, it’s better to avoid driving if you feel tired, which can affect your focus and concentration on the road. The NHTSA warns that crashes resulting from drowsiness occur primarily between midnight and 6 am. If you consume alcohol, it will increase your drowsiness and impair your concentration. In these situations, it's best to avoid nighttime driving altogether.   If you are regularly on the roads after dark, make sure you are safe behind the wheel. Drive slower, keep a safe following distance, and don't get blinded by the headlights of oncoming vehicles. Visit DARCARS INFINITI of Greenwich today, and our qualified technicians will ensure that your car is in tip-top condition for nighttime driving.
