The Temperature Gauge Is Rising

The temperature gauge on your dash is an excellent early warning of trouble inside the engine. Your engine usually operates between 185 F and 220 F, which is a comfortable temperature for all if it works efficiently. This temperature means the gauge will sit at approximately the halfway spot. When you accelerate, the temperature will increase, and the cooling system will speed up to swiftly reduce the temperature again.

Damaged Radiator Fan

A liquid coolant circulates through your engine and absorbs heat radiating from the engine. The hot coolant is then transported to the radiator for cooling by heat exchange. This process, however, only works when there's a constant flow of air through the radiator grille.

If your car is idling, the engine temperature will rapidly rise. When this happens, a fan at the rear of the radiator will switch on and blow across the back of the radiator tubes. This fan forces the heat out of your engine and rapidly drops the engine temperature. If the fan fails, your engine temperature will soar when you idle. Leaking Coolant

As we've seen, coolant is essential for controlling the temperature in the engine. It operates at high speed and under high pressure.
